Done and Dusted!!

Dear Journal
Yes that would be Xmas Day!..Being woken at 5:10am was Not my Ideal Time to Celebrate Santa with Miss Ella...after 2 eveings at work and not alot of sleep I was laying back down at 10:00am...and of course rest was the only thing I got maybe a little sleep here and there for just over an hour, our Neighbours front door faces into our Bedroom...say no more!! Anyway up I got and lasted till 10pm...the opening of the pressies was all very exciting then Crossants for Breakfast, I prepared lunch cleaned up and that was it pretty much...the Little One had a New Basketball stand from Us, a New Scooter and a little blow up pool fro Santa, plenty to keep her entertained...
The Night before Xmas Eve we went down too Coomera to see some streets looking so pretty with all their houses decorated...Ellla was in ore she was so Excited...

Xmas Eve I packed a little Lolly Bag for the Girl's and left it on their steps before I went too work, a little Surprise!

Home from work and it was time to prepare the Desert for Xmas...I had seen this on TV not too hard and something different I thought...

I was pretty pleased with how my Mixed Berry Ice-Cream Log came out...Next time I wouldn't put as much Raspberry Coulis and Chocolate on the top ...it was delish and with half gone I have since mixed them both into the ice-cream and re-freezed it for a raspberry and white chocolate ice-cream...

My DIL sent this photo through on Xmas Eve to remind us where we were this time last year..she didn't have to do that I was already Depressed from the week before remembering our wonderful trip...we spoke to our London Kids early xmas day our time so they could see Ella with her Pressies...but it wasn't the same...the 6th July can't come quick enough for me....for our next overseas trip...and if I have my way we will be spending next xmas overseas too...

So here are my books...both good choices by Daughter ones's that I would purchase myself...she did Good!! I'll take one on the Plane in July, not sure how much I will read but at least I'll look like the world traveller!! lol

                                                                Both girl's got wheels...

By 3pm I was doing This! a Bailey's and this is rare...showered and preparing Hexie's...as far as I was concerned xmas was over for me....it's just not the same.

I had ordered these Vintage pre-cut Hexie's from Instagram through The Crafty Squirrel in Melb....I decided to have a break from all sewing over the xmas / new year period but just make Hexie's big and small...I need too make heaps for my stonefields quilt and these...love the idea of them being pre-cut.

and last night I sat and stitched the papers into the vintage shapes and these will be for another Dillybag and for me...I'm planning on adding my own touch too this one I'm thinking of quilting these before making the bag and maybe some small pom poms around the top...watch this space...
I would usually edit my photo's from Instagram but didn't think it was necessary all the time....

I've also have been having a little break from IG didn't even turn my Ipad on xmas or boxing day and only have had it on too take these photo's....I felt I was becoming a little obsessed and I had been using it as a blog / journal but now that I have you here I really don't need to do that ...
Back to work tomorrow and the Mr. is home for another week....he'll be lost when the Cricket finishes he might have to do some chores!!!
                                                                     Till next time

Baking for Xmas...

Dear Journal..
Well Today's been one of those planned Sunday's where Baking was in order, now Baking for Xmas is not something that I do year after year but with Ella getting bigger I think it's good for her to start seeing what all the build up is like to the Big Day and yes only 4 More Sleeps so I keep gettin told!!
The plan of attack today was Gingerbread Men...a Boilded Fruit Cake...Meringues and to start our Ice-Cream Log for Xmas Day Desert...well the only thing that didn't get done was the Meringues but I think Boxing Day will be good for that exercise...

Saturday
Little Ella wasn't feeling 100% with earache and temps so this was a little strain on her part but it was still a distraction....mixing the dry ingredients for White Xmas Crackles Nanna's Way...yes it was a free for all with the lollies just what we need a nearly 5yr old on a sugar high plus medicine.....

as you can see She was Very Happy with her efforts of spooning and placing the flags....she was ready too crash at this stage and she was happy to leave nanny to clean up...Thank God for Dishwasher's that's all I can say...I did also Promise to teach her how to make Pom Pom's after lunch but I can tell you that didn't happen Nanny was ready for a Rest....LOL

Sunday
Today saw us making Gingerbread Men something I always wanted to make as I usually buy them from the shops...I followed a reciepe from a Donna Hay Mag and really I was a little disappointed too much Mixed Spice and not enough Ginger but all in all they worked out well...a long process at that...Ella got a bit bored with it all after helping to cut the shapes don't think there's any Chef in her just yet....also

I made the Raspberry Coulis for the base of our Ice-Cream log for xmas day desert another first saw them on TV not hard at all...
Well you know there are many of us out there in stitching land that collect tins...I did once but hadn't for some time..saw this Shortbread at Woollies during the week much dearer than the usual but it was the tin that got my Attention as I am making 3/4" Hexies at the moment for my Stonefields Quilt and this tin is Perfect for keeping them in before sewing them into flowers..after sharing on Instagram I realised that collecting Tins is a Very Big Past Time for some...LOL ..
So that's my days off booked in for the next 3 then another lot of days off 5 infact won't be long and my shifts will change again to suit Ella starting Prep....and Another Year of What if's...
                                                                 Till next time

This Time Last Year!

Dear Journal
This time last year we were just a little excited packing for our Very First Overseas Trip...I know everyone says the same but the Year has just Flown, Keeping busy helps I Guess and it won't be long before 6th July comes around and we are off again this time for nearly 8 weeks...
Thought I'd share some photo's from then, we stayed in a Mariner's Village called Greenwich which we fell in love with and felt very safe, always a scary thing for your first time, the kids lived on the other side of Greenwich Park and I always worried when they walked home in the dark which happens in London very early to what we are use too here in Australia and Qld...
Our London Kids are Big Jamie Oliver Fans and we are too and just our Luck we had one of his Italian Restaurants and Coffee House just in the next block from the Ibis where we were staying in Greenwich...
Our Son Gavin booked us into one of his other restaurants in London it took a bit to find it the rain and cold didn't help but we did in the end....
as you can see our son was chuffed that one has been ticked off the Bucket List!
The Kids organised us to go too Paris for Xmas Day so off we trot on a Bus crowded with many other's and children on this journey then the bus went onto a train type thing like a container and under water we went and then back onto Land we were in France...it was a bit to take in at first I don't think it really sunk in where I was as that's all we folk talk about is going too Paris...
Our DIL Sam booked us onto a River Cruise for Xmas Day Lunch it was just Beautiful except it did rain once again...it rained for the whole trip 3 and a bit weeks out of 5 I was ready too come home by then the cold was ok because we had all the right clothing but the rain was a pain....we were hoping for snow but that didn't happen but we did get close in Bath...
Lunch Xmas Day in Paris.
Sam was determined the next day to find the Famouse Macaroon Shop "Laduree"  that was the very first in the world...well we walked and walked the streets and finally we found it...it was very busy and as I can't eat them due too almond meal in them I wasn't really interested but the walk was good we saw heaps...
that's just a little snippet of what we did and I could go on but I won't at this stage...it's nice to look back and remember our first of many we hope...as I'm writing this our kids are planning to move from London too Scotland hopfully by April, Gavin will move with the construction company he is with and Sam not so sure as she is in Finance....That's where we are planning to go too in July, our tickets are paid for so will be interesting to see what pans out...
On the sewing front I have put my Stonefields blocks up on my design wall  ready to prep some more blocks I'm only upto block 4 now, I have a stitching Friend Jeanette who is planning on starting so I'm going to wait for her to catch up and we are going to inspire each other to get these blocks done..sounds good in theory LOL...

it's good to get a photo didn't realise I was making so many in Blue Tones and I'm not normally a Blue Person...I have finished a quilt top think I'll leave that for next time...
                                                                       Till Then

Xmas Swaps from Instagram.

Dear Journal
I had a couple of  New Ladies join in on our Online Stitching Group for the Xmas Swap so I opted out this year...then I joined in on a Xmas Swap on Instagram, I didn't know either of the Ladies that I sent too and they sent too me so it was Nice to add 2 New Followers too my list...
I sent mine to Lisa in Victoria now when I stalked her IG Page I soon found out that Lisa had Won a Prize at the recent Melbourne Quilt Show for one of her Modern Quilts..eeek!! I'm in trouble here I thought...
Modern I am Not well I don't think I am...anyway once I sourced her blog found some of the fabrics that she does like mainly Denise Schmidt I was OK!!...so of course a Dillybag was the Plan.

I used all scraps from my stash for this one and it looked pretty good...and this is what I recieved from
Mary also from Victoria...

A Beautiful Cushion using Tilda Fabrics and Hexagons...it's so Pretty I Just Love it!! Mary sure got
it right...

Row by Row Mystery Quilt.

This year with my group Sunday Stitches I put the challenge out too anyone that wanted to participate in a
Mystery Row by Row Quilt...we had 7 takers.

We were given instructions to make the middle row ourselves the subject was Flowers, any interpretation you wanted...I went with French General Fabrics from my stash..I used a Light Grey Background with a darker Grey small Dot...in my centre I appliqued a rabbit..leaves and flowers in blanket stitch using silk thread, I didn't want the blanket stitch to over power the fabrics...
In march we had to bring our finished row in our bags to swap and that continued each month until September when our bags were given back to us to do the last row which was a Stitched Verse...
I stitched a verse from a Anni Downs pattern and a vine and leaves...
Each Month I gave the other's a subject as they had to interpret their own version onto someone else's quilt and sew that row to the previous so when we recieved our top back it was just that and not all the rows for us to sew ourselves...this is our show & tell at our break up party last sunday...

Dear Journal
They all look fantastic and so different...for some it was their first time in applying themselves for certain subjects which was good for them to be pushed just a little...the subjects were: Flowers..Pinwheels..Stars..Circles...Hearts...Hexagons...Baskets and the Stitched Verse.
Next Year we are making a Trip Around the World Top with 3 challenges set in the first 6 months the girl's will stitch these at their leisure and show & tell at the end of the year..me I'm going to continue the one I started with Brigitte Giblin during the year and the plan is to take it each month to work on at our meets.

                                                                     Till next time.

Working out of your Comfort Zone!

Dear Journal...
That's what I've been trying to do for the last 6 Months with my Fly away with Me Quilt...I didn't realise the work that is involved with this project...I know it was the Applique and the Birds that got me in when I did the workshop with Marg Sampson George back in July....
I've been adding to the stash for this quilt, buying fabrics that I do Like or Love trying too think like other's but after 6 Blocks not all finished I might add and some have been re-done and unpicked to make way for new fabrics is just not working for me...this week I have felt a real Low not wanting to work on it at night after work which I usually can't wait to get home to do till the wee small hours of the morning....

When I look at other's that have finished this quilt I really love the fabrics and colours that they have used but for some reason when I try it, it just doesn't do it for me...I've tried new colours for the birds, auditioning colours for the Lozenges, still not sure on the Purple, I've neer been a Purple Girl and not even sure why I was attracted to it on the day, the Green and even the Orange Spot was looking good...it's looking like a Mish Mash and that's not me!...I like to work in sets that's how I usually buy my fabrics always have since 1998, it's how I Dress and Decorate my Home.
Yesterday I was at the stage where I just didn't know what to do, these type of quilts I would prefer to be doing in an on going class but Unfortunately I can't get too them from Interstate, the Disadvantages of not still living in Sydney...OH if I was!!...well that's not going to happen, Lucky for Us we will be having Marg here Next October and I'm sure I will have something to show her then...I'm not going to show any progress on IG I think all my followers there are sick of me and my indecisions  lol. but I will blog here when I get back too it...Thanks for Listening Dear Journal.
                                                                       Till next Time

A Good Tip from Tutors.

Dear Journal

Well I've slowly recovered from a Very Busy Sunday...Monday saw me with my Foot Up! which is unlike me for a Monday...it's usually Go Go Go..
Tuesday had to take The Mr. to the Fracture Clinic for a follow up from Ankle Injections which Unfortunately haven't worked as Effectively as before...this Injury is from 1988 Originally told that a Permanent Fusion will be needed..well the time has come to talk Operation...
The Mr. has decided to have another lot of Injections to tie him over till we come back from our Trip which will be for  2 months...this was the one thing that was stopping me from buying the tickets early But he did manage OK last year on our trip and this time round there won't be as much walking...
The Mr. is on a Month's leave as of this week mainly due too Stress from his Job and he's looking at a New Position at a Previous  Place of Work starting in the New Year...Our Retirement can't come Quick Enough, Hopfully in 3 Years....Nomads Here we Come!!!
OK!! back too Sewing...
I've finally replaced the Birds on 2 Blocks from my "Fly away with Me" quilt by Marg Sampson George...we have her coming here to the GC in October next year so I need to at least get a top finished to show her then I can continue with one of her New Patterns that she is teaching down in Sydney at Material Obsession and Cottage Quilt Works...I Envy those Ladies to be able to have Marg twice a month, Her Inspiration is Infectious to say the least...

Block One....Fly away with Me.
On this first block I found using Fabrics that were too Out There for me were Popping out of the block which is OK for some but I found they were Too Prominent even though this whole quilt is Birds, which is what attracted me too the quilt in the first place...I Do Love my Birds.

Block Two...Fly away with me.
I've really gone a bit out there with this Green Fabric for the Stems, I do love this fabric and have since bought more, I think I've toned it down a bit with the top birds keeping the middle one as is...

Using Window Templates...Fly away with me.
NOW!! the Tip...I know this is not something New too Some and I have seen it used before but not something that I had been Practising up until Now...Marg shared this with us at the workshop this year and I did use it in block one then totally forgot all about it until I put a little message up on my IG page saying I was struggling with the fabrics...Marg Kindly replied and reminded me to use the window template...
Now this is Block Three which goes in the centre Middle...I really love this fabric by Tula Pink with the Green's and Teal's, so this is how to use a window template...Photocopy your pattern sheet, cut out the centre of your design as I have above, this is mainly for me to choose the Stems and Leaves for this block...
the Wavy Piece will be another fabric, there are also Birds that will sit on the leaves...it does take a little time to cut out but so worth it when trying to see how your chosen fabrics will look, rather than cutting out and realising it doesn't work...

I didn't join in on the 6 Items Xmas Swap that I run in my Online Group this year, then one came up on IG so I went into that...Just had to make something, anything you like for your partner...Here are my Gifts waiting to be posted this week and are heading too Victoria...all will be revealed once she has recieved her Pressies...Aussie Xmas Swap.

Last year I had a little swap with my Long Time Stitching Friend Lorraine from  Warrnambool in Victoria, this is the Lovely Table Centre she made me... a Marg Low Design... it looks Lovely with my Old Santa sitting on the TV Cabinet...
Well that's it for me Today...

Colour Run 2014.

Dear Journal

We I mean My DD and GDD did the Colour Run last year for the first time..it's a Charity Event that runs Australia Wide for Cancer Research...
It's back on Tomorrow Sunday and looking  to be a little better than last year, it was Very Wet the whole week leadimg up too the Day, which made it a bit Slippery and the Venue wasn't as flat as one would have liked...but we managed!!
Yesterday we had to go down too Robina on the Gold Coast too pick up our T-Shirt & Number Packs...

The venue has been changed too a Football Oval which will be much flatter to walk round...it's a 5Klm walk, at each 1Klm they throw Coloured Chalk onto all who pass the line...hence the rainbow colour's on the T-Shirts...we're heading off early as I need too be back for Our Sunday Stitchers Last Meet and Xmas Breakup for 2014...1-8pm and with Secret Santa and lots of Show & Tell from Our Challenges throughout the year...
We headed back into Robina Town Centre for Refreshments and a Look Around...
We didn't stay as long as first thought forgot about the Xmas Crowds...but I did manage to buy a New Decoration for my Tree...it's a bit of a Ritual I do each year...
And of course it is a Bird!!

It's was our Daughter in Law's 32nd Birthday Yesterday 28th..I sent her a message on Instagram with this photo from an earlier Dinner date at Jamie's Italian in London...I Love this Photo of Sam.
